Samsung Unveils Its First Google Phone

Samsung Electronics became the first major mobile phone maker to launch a smartphone based on Google's Android software.

The South Korean company on Monday unveiled the I7500, which sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera and 8GB of internal memory. It's 11.9 millimeters thick.

The I7500 will be available in major European countries starting from June, the company said.

The mobile phone joins two Android handsets already on the market from High Tech Computer (HTC) of Taiwan, the T-Mobile G1 and the HTC Magic. Android handsets from other makers have also been announced.

The smartphone can connect to mobile phone broadband services through HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) as well as Wi-Fi, Samsung said.

Developed by Google, Android is a smartphone operating system that is meant to make Web browsing, especially on Google sites such as YouTube and Google Maps, easy.

Samsung did not reveal pricing for the handsets nor when the handset will be out in other parts of the world.

India Voters Can Now Track Election News Online

Internet giant Google has created an online tool to track the 2009 elections
in India via the web in detail.

The website is filled with valuable information, and features topics such as the latest election news, quotes from candidates, locations of polling booths, statisctics, profiles and more. What's more is that all of this information can be personalised to a specific location.

Using the "Personalise election page" tool on the homepage, a user can search for detailed information on a specific location such as a city or a region.

According to Wikipedia, a total of 1,368,430 Electronic voting machines will be used in 828,804 polling stations around the country.

Users will be able to track India election news at

ZigBee Vs Bluetooth

Common in Both  :
Both are types of IEEE 802.15 "wireless personal-area networks," or WPANs.
Both run in the 2.4-GHz unlicensed frequency band, and both use small form factors.

Differences:
They are two different technologies with very different areas of application and different means of designing for those applications.

Bluetooth, as you likely know, eliminates cabling between electronic products and accessories, such as between computers and printers or between phones and headsets. Bluetooth users with handhelds or laptops can exchange files, business cards and calendar appointments. Bluetooth is more oriented toward user mobility and eliminating short-distance cabling;
ZigBee aims more for grand-scale automation and remote control.

While ZigBee is focused on control and automation,
Bluetooth is focused on connectivity between laptops, PDA’s, and the like, as well as more general cable replacement.

ZigBee uses low data rate, low power consumption, and works with small packet devices;
Bluetooth uses a higher data rate, higher power consumption, and works with large packet devices.

ZigBee networks can support a larger number of devices and a longer range between devices than Bluetooth.

Because of these differences, the technologies are not only geared toward different applications, they don't have the capability to extend out to other applications.

As an example, for its applications, Bluetooth must rely on fairly frequent battery recharging, while the whole goal of ZigBee is for a user to be able to put a couple of batteries in the devices and forget about them for months to years.

In timing critical applications, ZigBee is designed to respond quickly, while Bluetooth takes much longer and could be detrimental to the application.

Thus, a user could easily use both technologies as a wireless solution in a PAN to suit all types of applications within that network.

Technical differences between the two protocols:

  • Modulation technique
    Bluetooth:
    Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS)
ZigBee: Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS)

  • Protocol stack size
    Bluetooth:
    250 kbyte
    ZigBee: 28 kbyte

  • Battery
    Bluetooth:
    Intended for frequent recharging
ZigBee: Not rechargeable (one reason batteries will last for up to 10 years)

  • Maximum network speed:
    Bluetooth:
    1 Mbit/s
    ZigBee:250 kbit/s

  • Network range:
    Bluetooth:
1 or 100m, depending on radio class
    ZigBee: Up to 70m

  • Typical network join time
    Bluetooth:
    3 seconds
    ZigBee: 30 milliseconds
