In order to protect interests of consumers receiving unsolicited commercial SMSes, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated all mobile operators in India to prefix an identification tag before all application-to-peer (A2P) commercial bulk SMSes which would reveal the name of the service provider and location where the SMS originated along with the name of the company sending the SMS.

The alphanumeric identifier should be of the form XY-Name of the company where X stands for code allocated for the service provider while Y stands for the service area where the SMS is originating from.

For example, AT Citibank would mean that the SMS is sent through Airtel mobile network from Tamil Nadu by Citibank company.

Similarly VX stands for Vodafone -Karnataka, TA for Tata Teleservices-Andhra Pradesh, TM for Tata Teleservices-Mumbai, AM for Airtel-Mumbai, AX for Airtel-Karnataka etc.

The standard prefixes finalized by TRAI are incomprehensible to the common man. For example, Z stands for Maharashtra, X for Karnataka, E for Reliance Telecom, and P for Spice Telecom etc.

Walking, talking, female robot playing to Catwalk on the Japanese Ramp

Japanese researchers have showed off a robot that will soon strut its stuff down a Tokyo catwalk.

The girlie-faced humanoid with slightly oversized eyes, a tiny nose and a shoulder length hair boasts 42 motion motors programmed to mimic the movements of flesh-and-blood fashion models.

"Hello everybody, I am cybernetic human HRP-4C," the futuristic fashionista said, opening its media premiere at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology outside Tokyo.

The fashion-bot is 158 centimetres tall, the average height of Japanese women aged 19 to 29, but weighs in at a waif-like 43 kilograms, including batteries.

She has a manga-inspired human face but a silver metallic body.

HRP-4C will debut on March 23 during the Tokyo fashion show; she will have to appear by herself rather than alongside human models due to health and safety issues.

Developed for the entertainment industry the bot is currently not for sale. Her robotic framework, without a face will be sold for about $200,000. The technology to program the bot will be made available to the public so that others can develop actions, moves, and expressions on their own.

"Google Earth 5.0" now available

The latest version of Google Earth 5.0 was released early in February 2009, and as may be expected, this version has a few new features for users to explore. 

Earlier versions were impressive enough, but there was something missing - almost two thirds of the earth's surface - the ocean - was not mapped. This has now all changed with the latest version. Google Earth 5.0 now has a detailed bathymetric map (a map of the ocean floor). 

You can now 'dive' into the ocean and explore mapped 3D environments of the earth's ocean floor. You can select "Ocean" on the left of the screen, under the "Layers" section. While below the surface, you can also explore thousands of data points. These include ocean life images and videos, best surf spots, and even logs of true ocean expeditions. But this is not the only new feature that has been added. 

The new version now also includes "Historical Imagery". What this basically means is that you can now look at a geographical area over a period of time, move it back and forth, and see the geographical changes that may have taken place in that area. These include images from not only years, but also decades ago. The "Historical Imagery" feature is enabled when you click the "clock" icon (at the top, middle of the screen on the toolbar). The feature means you can, for example, take a look at how your city has changed over the past few decades, how new buildings, parks and areas have developed. 

"Touring" is another feature added with this new release. What this means is that you can now tell a story by creating a recordable fly-through video by clicking the "record" button and then flying to your destinations in Google Earth. This can then be easily shared with others. 

Lastly, 3D Mars in now also available in the latest version. Created with the help of NASA you can explore a 3D map of mars, featuring the latest high-resolution imagery of the landscape. (Accessable from the icon available at the top, middle of the screen on the toolbar. Clicking the icon will open a drop down menu, from where you select "Mars"). 

Two new Satellites were launched on September 18, 2007 to gather imagery of earth. The new satellites are reported to be able to gather imagery 7 times faster than previous. As time goes by, we will probably see even more, enhanced features come to life in Google Earth.
